Leah's Quilt

I finally finished my friend Leah's quilt!  It is by far the hardest quilt I have ever made!  There are a few mistakes in it here and there, but overall I was very pleased.  I just hope that she is, too!  It is currently in transit via the US Postal Service to her home.  My next project is a t-shirt quilt for a colleague's son.  I have started cutting out the pieces. I just need to finish cutting them so I can move on to sewing them.  Pics of it's progress to follow.

HSU Art Teacher Retreat 2012

HSU Art Teacher Retreat 2012, a set on Flickr.
These are photos of some the various artworks created by myself and other fellow art teachers this week at the Henderson State University Summer Intensive Art Teacher Retreat. I had such a good time! I have one mask and one pen and ink portrait in this set. My mask is the one that has bronze feathers on the top and back of the head. My pen and ink drawing is a portrait of my husband. I hope you enjoy browsing through these!

Printmaking Day 2

My morning class for the art retreat is pen and ink. I am doing a portrait of my husband. This is what I have so far.

Mask Making Day 2

These are images from a week long art teacher retreat at HSU that I have been attending this week. My afternoon class is mask making. I am reproducing a Haida mask from the northwest coast artists. The other is one I am designing on my own. These are just the beginnings. I will post more after class this afternoon.

All layers of color are now sewn together!

All that is left to do now is fill in the corners and make the shape more rectangular instead of circular.

I finally finished the 3rd layer of color...

...after many days of interruptions and distractions. I think it is coming along nicely. I hope to have the top pieced by the end of this weekend.

Dark and windy storm flew through today.

Just at the edge of the dark clouds you could see a piece of clear sunny sky.

Believe it or not, this was taken around 3 p.m.  Crazy storm made it dark in a matter of a few minutes.

Third layer of color done....

...now on to the fourth. Three down, three more to go.

Also, included pic of fourth color to come.

I had some time today to finish up the second layer of color. I think it's going well.

My First Starburst Quilt

This is the very beginning center of my first starburst quilt. I hope it turns out okay. I've already made a few mistakes, but I'm learning about the little kinks in piecing triangles very quickly!

Whitley's Toms

For my neice's birthday I painted these cool toms in celebration of her making the basketball team. We are really proud of her! She loved them, which I am really thankful for because there was no turning back after I applied that first layer of paint! :)

Grandma's Lap Quilt

Different point of viewA quilt that I have been making for my grandma that I finally finished!

Grandma's lap quilt 3/2012, a set on Flickr.

I finally finished my grandma's lap quilt today. I started it the past fall with the intention of giving it to her as a Christmas present. However, as usual, I did not finish it on time. It is a cute pre-printed top that I found at my local Wal-Mart this past summer with a nice matching floral print as the backing. I hand quilted the entire thing and bound it with a hunter green bias tape. I will be giving it to her this weekend. I hope she likes it! :)

Baby Adalyn's Quilt

This past week I made a quilt for my friend Chelsey's yet to be born baby girl, Adalyn. It is the second quilt that I have quilted by machine. This time I changed a few settings on my sewing machine, which made the process much easier. I was very pleased with the outcome and I think Chelsey was, too. Hopefully, baby Adalyn will love it as much as I enjoyed making it.
