This blanket was made by my mother, Susie, for Carter. The pattern is little sports cards with each Sesame Street character in a specific type of sporting apparel. My brother is a coach. So, naturally everything for Carter has just about been sports related.

A Quilt for Carter by Mary Lee
This quilt was made by my grandmother, Mary Lee. She is the person who taught me how to hand quilt. I love this quilt! Although it is a pre-printed pattern, my grandmother does a beautiful job of quilting around every little detail in the pattern. It is absolutely gorgeous!
Carter's Diaper Bag
This is a diaper bag that I made for my new nephew, Carter James. It was my first experience with machine quilting. I struggled with the quilting part, but I really like the way the bag turned out. Also, it was my first time using fusible interfacing, too! I loved it! It makes hemming so much easier!
Baby Elkin's Quilt
I made this quilt over the past two weeks for a friend/co-worker's baby! It was a pre-printed pattern that I hand quilted over the lines on. I absolutely love the little animals in the pattern!

Carter and Champ's Quilt
I recently finished my first fully pieced quilt. I made it for my new nephew Carter and his puppy Champ. I love the way the quilt top looks, but I do not like the backing or machine quilting. I tried to free-motion quilt, but it did not turn out very well. It will probably be awhile before I try to machine quilt again. I've got to research the method more.

JoAnn's Fabric and Crafts
Today, I went to JoAnn's Fabric and Crafts for the first time. While there I bought some fabric to start a quilt top for my good friend, Christy Thompson's, little boy that she is expecting in December. I won't post any pictures on here because I want it to be a surprise. However, I also bought some 5" x 5" pre-cut squares in a floral pattern that I am going to use to make a quilt for my mom. I am very excited about my fabulous finds today! I really like JoAnn's. Personally, I think it was much better than Hancocks for novelty cotton prints. I would have preferred to go to Hobby Lobby, but seeing as how it was Sunday they were not open. Here are some pictures of the pre-cut squares I found.

Crackers in Bed
This is a picture by Norman Rockwell that I recently stumbled upon on Google images. I absolutely love it! It illustrates my teenage years very well....and for that matter....my adulthood, too! Except for the fact that I have cat in place of the dog! It is a desire of mine to own this one day, but I know that it will probably never happen. Maybe I see I nice reproduction in my future...

School is back from the summer!

So the academic year is back in session for teachers in my neck of the woods! I just spent the past week trying to get my NEW art room put together! I have unpacked all my boxes and stored most of my supplies away. I still have a few things that need to go in my storage closet, but I am waiting on a metal storage rack that should be in by Friday or Monday. All teachers will back for in-service on Tuesday. So, needless to say, my long days of rest, reading (for pleasure), sewing and quilting are long gone for a few months! I'll still be doing these things, but much slower than I did this summer! I am hoping that this is going to be a great year! I am working on finishing up my mother-in-law's quilt, which I started in November 2009, before I start and finish anymore projects! I will also be working on Carter's baby quilt, too! I'll post pics of both soon!

My First Fully Pieced Quilt Top
This is a picture of my first completely pieced quilt top. It is for my new little nephew, Carter. I am also going to piece the backing with a black and white striped pattern to match the block on the front. I will post pics of the backing once I am done with it.

Carter's Baby Quilt

First Quilt
I finally completed my first quilt. It was a baby quilt for a friend. However, my amazingly scatterbrained self forgot to take a picture of it first. I have asked my friend to take pictures of it and send them to me, but she hasn't gotten a chance to do so, yet. I will load some up, as soon as she gets them to me.

Painting Apron
I finally finished my painting apron for work! It helped to have a nice few days off and a totally awesome new sewing machine! I am so excited to have an apron to fully protect my clothes from paint. It will be used first thing Monday!

Test Run
So, I did get my sewing machine in. I used a piece of scrap fabric to tryout each stitch. It runs like a charm! I absolutely love it! I cannot believe that they even still make mechanical sewing machines anymore! The electronic one is so nice. My favorite features are the automatic needle and bobbin threader and the way the needle always moves into the up position when you stop sewing!!!! It is so awesome. I haven't had time to sew on it much, but I plan to do something cool over spring break! We shall see...

Quilting 101

I bought the book Quilting 101 today. It is a beginner's guide to quilting. I hope to learn a little more about sewing and quilting from it. I am especially excited about learning how to actually piece the top of the quilts rather than using a pre-printed pattern! Things are moving slow for me right now because I am doing quite a bit of reading for my job. But, I am hoping to pick up some more quilting around spring break!

Sleeping Beauty
Molly does not stay far from me when I am home. She decided to curl up on my sewing pattern while I was sewing my apron. Silly cat has no concept of being in the way, but I love her!!
My Latest Project
I've been trying to finish up an apron to wear when I teach color theory to my students. Tempera will not come out of clothes...contrary to what the bottle says.
Sunday Morning Sunrise
I took this picture from the office window one Sunday morning while Kyle was duck hunting.
Animal Watching
The neighbors chihuahua, Lola, ran the poor baby in the house. Now, she just sits and watches Lola and the neighbors two cats play in the backyard.
Curious Molly Cat
Isn't she beautiful!! I love this picture so much because it shows her true nature!
Ice Storm 1
I took this picture at my mom's house from a window during our small ice storm last weekend.

Funk...
So, I am in a creative funk lately. I haven't had a desire to create anything. I come home from work, and surf the net or watch tv for way too long. Then, I'm ready to go to bed. I've just started a fabulous three day weekend, so maybe I'll get some stuff done around the house, which in turn will allow me to feel better about spending time on my creative endeavors.

Ephesians 4:28

During my morning Bible reading/studying this morning, I came across some scripture that really struck a chord with me. Ephesians 4:28 reads like this, "Let the thief steal no more, but rather let him be industrious, making an honest living with his own hands, so that he may be able to give to those in need. (Amplified)" When I first read the verse, I'm sure I thought of it just the way you are thinking of it right now. I began to literally think of thieves, those individuals who literally steal material things from you. It wasn't until after much meditation on the verse that I began to think of it in a more spiritual way. Naturally, I began to reflect on myself first. Personally, I believe that stealing can be denying God of his praise, worship, and fellowship from you. When you don't praise, worship, fellowship, or study God's word, you can be of no service to God's people. So, we should be more industrious both spiritually and physically. We need to be good employees at our jobs, so we can make money to support our families and ourselves, but also God's kingdom, too. We should be wise about our finances, so that we can give back to God and help those in need. Once we have built ourselves up, we can then minister to others in need. In turn these individuals can become good employees and followers of Christ. They too can then help others in need. If we all followed this perfect model from Christ's own word, we could possibly help to eliminate poverty in America and other areas of the world. This small little verse says so much to me about God's love for us all. Through true faith and works we could literally change the entire world. God's grace and love is good enough for me. Think about it: whose path shall you light today?

Favorite Wedding Photo
This was my favorite wedding photo of the year. Now, granted...I only did two weddings this year, but hopefully that will change this summer!
Williams Wedding
This past September, I did a wedding for Jay and Ashley Williams. If you will click on the title of this post, it will take you to my flickr set for these pictures. I really think they turned out quite nicely! I hope you like them.
